Sergeant Tom Eagle

On Tuesday, 29 September, 2009 a Canadian Forces Veteran and prominent member of our community passed away.
Sergeant Norbert Thomas (Tom) Eagle, CD (retired) enlisted in the Canadian Forces at the age of 19.
He served from 1951 until 1975 when he retired in Yellowknife after a 25 year career that included tours in Germany and Cypress.
After his retirement, Sgt Eagle spent his time as an active participant in Veterans’ Affairs and other community endeavors.
He served as the Chair of both the NWT/Nunavut Aboriginal Veterans Association and the First Nations Veterans Association of Canada, as well as President of the NWT/Nunavut branch of the Army Cadet League of Canada.
A service will be held on Saturday, 3 October at St Patrick’s High School Yellowknive at 1430 hrs to honour his memory.
JTFN will be providing honorary pallbearers and assistance with the ceremony.

Sergeant Richard Parker

Ric passed peacefully from us in the Victoria Hospice on March 29, 2010.
Ric was born in Vernon, BC, on May 27, 1917. He is survived by loving wife Thelma, son Richard (Linden, WA), daughter Marilyn (Vernon, BC) and extended family including several nieces, nephews and grand-children.
Ric enlisted in the PPCLI in 1942 following in his fathers footsteps. He served in WWII as a Sergeant in the Canadian Army.
Ric was a member of the British Columbia Aboriginal Veterans and Serving Members Association and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 172.
Now rests a good man, a kind man, who willingly sacrificed his youth and health to defend our Country.
